The Vacuum Cleaner Isn’t So Scary When I Hold Your Hand Daddy

Angry Vacuum CleanerIt was time to vacuum the living room, which happens alot at our house considering Haley still likes to garner a good bulk of her diet from the floor :)

Haley is almost one year old, and she learned how to walk recently.  She leans, spins, and rarely walks in a straight line. She’s just happy she is going somewhere.

Anyway, I got out the vacuum and fired it up.  Haley had a look of horror on her face as she tried to run away. She stumbled and fell.  That broke my heart of course, so I turned off the vacuum and was going to go get her.

She had already recovered from her fall and was coming in my direction by this time.  She kept her eyes on the vacuum cleaner to make sure it didn’t make any sudden movements. Haley closed the last bit of distance between us as fast as she could.  I could sense her relief when she made it into my arms. Continue reading

The End Times Core Values

This is Kris Vallotton’s Eschatalogical Core Values  and they have really challenged me on my end time beliefs. I am going to be sharing my personal experience and what Lord has been showing me in the scriptures very soon. But for now, here you go:

  1. I will not embrace an end-time worldview that re-empowers a disempowered devil.
  2. I will not accept an eschatology that takes away my children’s future, and creates mindsets that undermine the mentality of leaving a legacy.
  3. I will not tolerate any theology that sabotages the clear command of Jesus to make disciples of all nations and the Lord’s Prayer that earth would be like heaven.
  4. I will not allow any interpretation of the scriptures that destroys hope for the nations and undermines our command to restore ruined cities.
  5. I will not embrace an eschatology that changes the nature of a good God.
  6. I refuse to embrace any mindset that celebrates bad news as a sign of the times and a necessary requirement for the return of Jesus.
  7. I am opposed to any doctrinal position that pushes the promises of God into a time zone that can’t be obtained in my generation and therefore takes away any responsibility I have to believe God for them in my lifetime.
  8. I don’t believe that the last days are a time of judgment, nor do I believe God gave the church the right to call for wrath for sinful cities. There is a day of judgment in which GOD will judge man, not us.

What Evil Has Besieged Me!? – Son, Its Called An Alarm Clock

Jordan, our rambunctious 7 year old boy, has a hard time getting out of bed in the morning and preparing for school. Since his mom and I get very little sleep anyway, we decided we would put an alarm clock in his room that would wake him up thirty minutes early.

Of course, we disguised it as a rocket ship that projects images of the universe on the ceiling, which he really loves.

Rocket Ship Alarm Clock

About 6:02 A.M. our bedroom door flung open and a staggering seven year declared “something really bad is happening“. I asked him what it was, and he said his clock was beeping loudly and he couldn’t stand the noise. He couldn’t sleep. “Dad, its really bad!“. Continue reading

How To Overcome Disappointment & Discouragement

When you hope for something to happen, and it doesn’t, what do you do? Does disappointment send you into a tail spin where you find yourself getting depressed and losing hope?

I do not get depressed easily, but the quickest way to that point is through disappointment. Hoping for something to happen, that just doesn’t can be a very tough thing for me to deal with emotionally and spiritually.

If you encounter a situation in your life that causes you disappointment or discouragement it is your responsibility to look to Jesus and step through that to the other side.

His Extravagant Nature

I stood outside my parent’s house away from the dim glow of city lights and could see the night sky so clearly. It had been a while since I looked at the stars and I was struck by their beauty and the sheer number of them.

Amazing patterns of stars, some brighter than others stretching across the night sky. I couldn’t help but to recognize the extravagant nature of our creator. What real purpose did all of these stars serve?

Are You Average, Or Normal?

In Georgia, we suffered from a drought that lasted more than a decade. Water levels had fallen and we were under constant, and quite annoying, water restrictions. Water had become so sparse at one point that the City of Atlanta only had reserves for 90 days. Governor Purdue even called for days of pray asking God for rain.

One of the local news stations interviewed a scientist about the issue asking him his opinion on the drought. His response was startling, he said that since Georgia had been in drought or near drought levels for a decade that we should assume that this was the new normal. Georgia should not expect to have increased rainfall because a pattern of dryness had emerged. Dry weather had become the average, therefore Continue reading
